Snipette – End User Licence Agreement
Version 1.0, 22 October 2026
This End User Licence Agreement (“Agreement”) is between you and Bastien Darbellay, Fribourg, Switzerland (“Author”), and covers the Snipette software, including its installer, updates, documentation and any accompanying files (“Software”). By installing, copying or using the Software you accept this Agreement. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the Software.
1. Licence grant
The Author grants you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licence to install and use the Software on any number of devices, for personal and commercial purposes. Images you create with the Software are yours; the Author claims no rights in them.
2. Restrictions
Except as expressly permitted by this Agreement or by mandatory law, you may not:
- copy the Software, other than for installation, backup or archival use;
- distribute, publish, rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense or otherwise make the Software available to third parties, whether free of charge or not (link to the official download page instead);
- modify, translate, adapt or create derivative works of the Software;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits this despite this limitation (for example for interoperability);
- remove or alter any copyright notice, licence text or trademark.
3. Third-party components
The Software contains open-source components licensed under their own terms, listed in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt and below. Those licences govern the components themselves, and nothing in this Agreement limits your rights under them.
4. Ownership
The Software is licensed, not sold. The Author retains all rights, title and interest in the Software, including all intellectual property rights. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
5. Updates and network access
The Software may check for updates by contacting GitHub servers and may download and install updates offered there. The Software does not collect or transmit personal data or usage data. See the privacy policy. The Author has no obligation to provide updates, support or maintenance.
6. No warranty
The Software is provided free of charge, “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. The Author does not warrant that the Software will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that stitched images will be correct. You use the Software at your own risk.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Author is not liable for any damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Software or this Agreement, including direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, loss of data, profits, revenue or business, however caused and on any theory of liability, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury where such exclusion is not permitted. Where liability can only be limited and not excluded, it is limited to the minimum extent permitted.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions the above exclusions and limitations apply only to the extent permitted, and you may have additional rights under mandatory consumer protection law that this Agreement does not affect.
8. Termination
This Agreement applies until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach it. On termination you must stop using and delete all copies of the Software. Sections 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10 survive termination.
9. Governing law and venue
This Agreement is governed by the substantive laws of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). The exclusive place of jurisdiction is Fribourg, Switzerland. If you are a consumer, this choice of law and venue does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence, nor of your right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country, where such law grants it.
10. General
If any provision of this Agreement is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect, and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its intent. This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and the Author about the Software. The Author may publish a new version of this Agreement with a later release; the version included with a release applies to that release.
