Summary
- The Snipette app collects no data. Screenshots stay on your computer.
- The app’s only network access is a check for updates on GitHub.
- This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, tracking or external fonts.
- Downloads, tips and store pages are handled by independent services (GitHub, itch.io, Ko-fi/Stripe, Microsoft) under their own privacy policies.
Who is responsible
Controller under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG/revFADP) and, where applicable, the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Bastien DarbellayFribourg, Switzerland
snipette.app@proton.me
The Snipette app
Screenshots and images. Captures, stitched images and settings are processed only on your computer. Nothing is uploaded. Images you copy to the clipboard or save to a file go where you put them. The app’s settings (theme, update check) are stored in %APPDATA%\Snipette\settings.json on your computer.
No telemetry. The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or usage tracking, and no account.
Update check. Snipette (installed with Setup.exe, or the portable version, from any official download source) checks for new versions at startup by requesting release information from GitHub (github.com, a service of GitHub, Inc., USA, a subsidiary of Microsoft). It may then download an update package from GitHub. Like any web request, this transmits your IP address, the time of the request and technical request data (such as the app version in the requested file name and a user agent) to GitHub. The author receives none of this data; GitHub may show the author aggregate download counts. GitHub processes this data as an independent controller: GitHub Privacy Statement. You can turn the check at startup off in the app (⋯ menu > Check for updates at startup). Legal basis (GDPR): legitimate interest in providing security and bug fixes (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Microsoft Store version. If you install Snipette from the Microsoft Store, installation and updates are handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
This website
The website is static HTML hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, embeds no third-party content and loads no external fonts or scripts. Cloudflare Web Analytics is not enabled.
To deliver the pages and protect them against attacks, Cloudflare necessarily processes your IP address and technical request data (requested URL, time, browser user agent) and may keep them in short-lived logs. The author does not use these logs to identify visitors. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. Legal basis (GDPR): legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Downloads, tips and stores
Links on this site lead to services that are operated independently, under their own terms and privacy policies. The author has no control over the data they process. When you follow such a link, the service receives your request directly.
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub (GitHub, Inc., USA) | Hosts the downloads (Setup.exe, Portable.zip) and the update files | GitHub |
| itch.io (Itch Corp, USA) | Alternative download, optional payment | itch.io |
| Ko-fi (Ko-fi Labs Limited, UK), payments by Stripe | Voluntary tips | Ko-fi, Stripe |
| Microsoft Store (Microsoft Corp., USA) | Store distribution (when available) | Microsoft |
If you send a tip, the author receives from Ko-fi the information you choose to give there (for example your name, a message and the amount). Payment card details are handled by Stripe and are never shared with the author. Tip records are kept as long as accounting law requires.
Contact by email
If you email the author, your address and message are used only to answer you and are deleted when no longer needed, unless a legal retention duty applies. Legal basis (GDPR): Art. 6(1)(b) or (f).
Transfers abroad
Cloudflare, GitHub, itch.io and Microsoft are based in the USA, Ko-fi in the UK. The UK is recognised as providing adequate protection by Switzerland and the EU. For the USA, transfers rely on the companies’ certification under the EU-US / Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework where they hold one, or on standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under the nDSG and GDPR you can request access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restriction of or objection to processing, and data portability, and you can withdraw any consent you gave. You can complain to a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, edoeb.admin.ch), in the EU/EEA the authority of your country.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). The author does not sell or share personal information, does not use it for targeted advertising and collects none through the app. You may still ask what personal information the author holds about you (normally only emails you sent) and request its deletion, and you will not be discriminated against for doing so.
Because the author holds almost no data about you, most requests are about data held by the services listed above; please contact them directly for that data.
Send requests to snipette.app@proton.me.
Children
The app and site are not directed at children and do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
This policy may be updated, for example when a new distribution channel is added. The current version is always on this page, with its date.
